Dismissing the “10-6 Dodge”
Posted by Bill Bentley on Apr. 13
Voices worked throughout the health reform effort to counter misinformation in the debate. Today, I’d like to call attention to a Washington Post piece by Ezra Klein that examines the idea of the “10-6 dodge.”
Health reform critics argued that the health bill only managed to be budget nuetral by raising taxes now and enacting benefits later–10 years of paying for only 6 years of benefits. But as Klein shows, the numbers don’t really bear this out. Actually, both spending and services are miniscule in the lead up to health reform’s big roll out in 2014, when most of the health policy changes go into effect.
Youngsters becoming obese earlier in life
Posted by Bill Bentley on Apr. 9Young Americans are not only increasingly struggling with obesity but also becoming obese earlier in life, according to a new study from the University of Michigan Health System. The prevalence of obesity reached 20 percent by ages 20-29 in Americans born from 1966-1985, but earlier generations took much longer to reach that rate of obesity.
